When Yan first arrived in Singapore to join Titansoft as a data scientist, he had one simple goal: survive. Having worked in Taiwan in data-related roles, this wasn’t his first job, but it was his first time working abroad and in an English-speaking environment. Five years later, he’s not only thriving but also shaping the path for others to succeed.
A Leap Beyond Borders
Yan was inspired by a senior from his university who recommended Titansoft and shared stories of overseas work experiences. Looking to expand his own horizons, he chose Singapore and reached out when his university senior, who is also a Titaner, shared with him the opportunity. Titansoft was already well-known among computer science students in Taiwan, particularly for its Agile and Scrum culture.
First Impressions & Early Challenges
Yan had heard of Titansoft’s Agile, open culture. But nothing could’ve prepared him for the start he had: his first day at the office was also his last—for the year.
At the time, the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing, and strict safety measures meant Yan’s onboarding was conducted fully remote. He met his teammates and manager entirely online. Working in a new language, in a new country, without in-person support, posed real challenges.
But instead of retreating, Yan adapted. He embraced the uncertainty, learned fast, and began building trust with his team—despite the distance.
Growing into Leadership
From a fresh grad to a Senior Data Scientist, Yan’s journey has been one of steady growth. Rather than waiting for direction, he consistently looked for ways to add value.
Six months ago, through a talent redeployment initiative aimed at encouraging knowledge sharing across teams, Yan joined a new product team. Early on, he noticed that the onboarding process had room for improvement.
Instead of settling for “that’s just how it is,” he took initiative. He reviewed training materials, streamlined the documentation, and reorganized the learning path with clearer structure and sequence. His proactive mindset earned him Star of the Month, and more importantly, it made the onboarding experience better for future team members.
Yan also stepped into a mentor role, not because he was asked to, but because he believes seniors should lead by example.
In doing so, he mirrored the actions of his own role model (yes, the same university senior who once taught him to code and inspired his path into data science!). Today, Yan pays it forward by guiding others just as he was once guided.

Practicing Continuous Learning
Yan deeply resonates with Titansoft’s core value of Continuous Learning. With so many new tools, frameworks, and trends in tech, he believes it’s essential to stay curious and adaptable. Through a dedicated Learning Circle, team members share discoveries and experiments. If a new tool proves valuable, the team tries it out in a real project, and if it works well, they scale it across the team.
Reflecting as a Senior
Yan believes being a senior is more than delivering results. It’s about making the team better. He advocated for and participated actively in retrospectives to help the team reflect and improve. When he sees a chance to enhance the process or quality, he speaks up. It’s this constant pursuit of improvement that defines his approach.
He holds himself to high standards, always thinking about how he can grow to resemble his role model, not just in skills, but in mindset and contribution.
Words of Wisdom
For those considering joining Titansoft, Yan offers this advice:
“Don’t just wait for a task to be given to you. Always think about what you can contribute and how to make your team or yourself better.”
And for aspiring data scientists:
“When you see something wrong or have a better solution, speak up. Thinking big-picture helps you relate more to your users.”
Why Titansoft?
What Yan loves most about working at Titansoft is the people:
“Everyone is mature, supportive, and open-minded. It’s a great environment to grow. There’s space for everyone, no matter fresh grad or seasoned expert, to contribute and learn.”
From surviving to leading, Yan’s story is a powerful example of what happens when you embrace change, keep learning, and Never Stop Improving.
